Using 3D Animation to Win Design-Build Contracts

When one of our clients asked us to meet to discuss a new strategy for winning design build contracts, we were more than happy to oblige.
The idea was to add an animated movie to the presentation and submittal package that would more effectively communicate our client’s design intent for a new project they wanted to pursue. The plan was to animate in high detail the key design ideas that would not only provide for a compelling presentation, but also help separate our client’s presentation and submittal package from the competition.
The basic premise was that in many instances you are assuming that the decision making groups will be able to understand what you are proposing by flipping through traditional bounded packages, blue prints and maps for the proposed project. Well, whether it is a school board, freeway advisory group or a local community organization judging your submittal, not everyone may get what you are pitching. So, why not make it easy for everyone and simply “play a movie”.
The parking structure animation Focus 360 created showed not only what the structure would look like, but how it would integrate into the existing buildings on campus, how the students would access the structure from the educational buildings, how the circulation would work for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and so on and so on.
Our client was awarded the project and the school board was very impressed with how our client was able to use an animation or “play a movie” to make it so easy for everyone to understand what was being proposed.
This new strategy our client approached us with proved to be a bold and exciting move toward leveraging Focus 360’s virtual tools to gain an edge in the ongoing beauty contest circuit that takes place for just about every new project these days.

Great stuff, images speak much better than words in many situations.
